Haversham Sailing Club is a RYA Recognised Training Centre.
Qualifications earned on RYA courses are recognised and valued in most parts of the world. We have a superb team of volunteer Senior Instructors, Instructors and Assistant Instructors who give their time freely which enables us to offer a wide range of courses at a very reasonable cost. Most of our courses run over two days and two evening sessions, usually Thursday evening for shorebased work and Saturdays are spent afloat. Some courses run over a series of Thursday evenings. Courses generally run between April and September. The RYA scheme is structured to enable an absolute beginner to become a safe, competent sailor.
• RYA Level 1 Start Sailing – for total beginners
• RYA Level 2 Basic Skills – for those with Level 1 or equivalent skills and experience
• RYA Level 3 Better Sailing – for those who have completed Level 2
Level 1 and Level 2 are commonly run at HSC throughout the main season.
Improver and Advanced Courses
• Seamanship Skills
• Start Racing
• Sailing with Spinnakers
These courses (and Level 3) are run on an ad hoc basis according to demand and capacity in the training schedule.
The club runs RYA Powerboat and Safety Boat courses – usually one of each annually – for members opting to join the safety boat team for their preferred duty. Please email email@example.com for more information.
Training courses 2021
The training season is finished for 2021. Please check back in March for dates of courses in 2022.
Courses are advertised on the Training notice board in the clubhouse, on the website and the WhatsApp Forum. The club Calendar also has up to date details of what courses are on and when. Our courses are popular and places are limited so apply early to guarantee your place.
Training courses are only available to members of the club.
PLEASE email firstname.lastname@example.org to apply for and confirm a place is available on a course. You will then be sent a link to an E-booking form. Thank you.

Tuesday Improver Sessions
Tuesday Improver sessions run every Tuesday between the first Tuesday in April and the second Tuesday in September. Sessions start at 6pm and finish at 9pm or dusk (whichever is earlier). The safety boat will be on the water and there will be shore volunteers to help with rigging most evenings. All are welcome to come along.
Occasionally on Tuesdays there are focussed sessions on single handers, double handers, racing or anything else members wish to improve on. To find out more, join the Facebook group.
The club organises first aid courses for instructors, those doing safety boat duties and those helping with children’s activities. Any member of the club can attend a first aid course but places are limited and priority is given to thosewho require it for their duties. There is also food hygiene training for those who serve in the galley.
Please contact email@example.com if you are interested.
