Yesterday’s racing at Haversham Sailing Club certainly tested the skill, determination, and stamina of everyone who took to the water. With strong, gusty winds sweeping across the lake, sailors were faced with conditions that made every leg of the course a challenge. 
From the very first start, crews were working hard to keep their boats upright and moving efficiently. Gusts would arrive without warning, forcing sailors to hike hard, ease sheets quickly, and make split-second decisions. A few capsizes were inevitable, but that only added to the sense of adventure and determination on the water.
Despite the demanding conditions, those that ventured out showed great resilience. Every sailor who launched deserves credit for tackling such testing weather. Challenging days like this push our skills further, build confidence, and remind us why sailing can be such an exhilarating sport.
Back on shore, stories of near misses, dramatic gusts, and hard-fought legs were shared with smiles all round.While the wind made racing tough, it also made it memorable.

Spring series racing starts on Sunday 29th March
4 races every Sunday.  Bronze, silver and gold fleet racing at 1.30pm and 3pm

Tuesday Evening Improvers start on Tuesday 21st April
Relaxed sailing with safety boat cover until it gets dark.

Wednesday Night Racing starts on Wednesday 22nd April
Separate start for Juniors and the Bronze fleet.
Post race food and social every week.

Buccaneers Rigging Day on 25th April
First Buccaneers meet of the summer.  Come along and learn how to prepare boats for the summer.  Bring your kit because there may be time to get on the water.

Open Day on Saturday 2nd May
Invite family and friends and neighbours to the club for the opportunity to try out sailing.

The new RYA Portsmouth Yardstick list is here — and with it comes the foundation of fair, competitive mixed-fleet racing for the season ahead.

A quick reminder of why the PY system matters:
The Portsmouth Yardstick allows different classes to race head-to-head by converting elapsed times into corrected times.

The national numbers are built from real race data submitted by clubs across the country, creating a benchmark that keeps club racing fair, relevant and competitive.

It is recognised that high-performance two-handed boats with conventional or asymmetric spinnakers cannot always sail to their potential on HSC lake so those boats have an adjusted club PY which is published in our racing documents.
